Join Peace Over Violence for Denim Day on April 22, 2009 and make a social statement with your fashion statement! In 1997, a young girl in Italy was raped by her driving instructor. Although initially sentenced, the perpetrator won an appeal on the decision. The court determined that since the young woman wore tight jeans she had to have helped the perpetrator remove them and thus consented. Women in the Italian Parliament were outraged and protested the reversal by wearing jeans. Their stand motivated the California Senate and State Assembly to follow suit. The news found its way to Peace Over Violence and "Denim Day" was born. Last year, hundreds of thousands of people supported victims’ rights through Denim Day. Find out how to participate through www.denimdayinla.org or www.denimdayusa.org.
